Coal resource polygons classified as either restricted or available for mining as based on defined geologic and land-use criteria which are specific to underground and surface mining methods. This dataset was based on the combination and classification of geospatial layers sourced from both internal ISGS project data and publicly available datasets. This map was created as part of the National Coal Availability Assessment being conducted by the USGS.
